TRAVELING TO CHORONI

WAY FORWARD FROM CARACAS OR VALENCIA TO CHORONI

TIME OF TRAVEL: from Caracas’ Tazon old toll booth, with normal traffic, is about 3 ½ to 4 hours and from Valencia is about 2 ½ hours.

The highway you must take departing from Valencia or from Caracas is the national highway that connects Caracas and Valencia, the Central Region National Highway, and enter in the city of Maracay. We recommend you to enter Maracay city by Palo Negro, which is the first exit after  “la Encrucijada” Crossroads coming from Caracas to Valencia, and the next exit after Tapa Tapa entrance coming from Valencia to Caracas, because this is the easiest way to get your way to Choroni.

Once you get the entrance, Pass the “Palo Negro” old toll booth and follow road until you reach a roundabout with an airplane on; then go round ¾ and turn left towards "Bolivar" avenue, keep going on this direction until you get into another roundabout known as the “Obelisco roundabout”, then go round ½ of the roundabout, and keep straight to follow the path towards the “Casanova Godoy" avenue.

A guide to know you are getting into the right direction is that by the time you take this road you will pass in front of the Kellogg’s company factory and a gas station. We recommend you to put gas here even thought your tank indicates full, because the road is really long and there are not so many stations along the way.

Keep going through the road that the half turn of the roundabout have take you into until you find the next exit, at this exit take the path to your left, and take the side that takes you over the road you were coming from, and get into the Casanova Godoy Av.

Follow this avenue until you get to the fourth traffic light, to know that you did not miscount,  from the fourth traffic light of Casanova Godoy’s avenue you will be able to see ahead a Mc. Donald's restaurant. At this traffic light, turn right to get into “Las Delicias”avenue. This avenue is easy to recognize because it has a large island of trees in the center of the road. You must go straight at “Las Delicias” avenue until you reach the zoo. For your reference, the zoo must be located to your right if you are going in the right direction.

Once you reach the zoo, continue going where the road takes you without crossing anywhere, and reach “El Castaño” Avenue, this avenue is ahead and is a two-way avenue, that has no islands or divisions that separates the road that comes and goes.  On your way going, you will pass in front of a Pizza Mia restaurant (a pizza restaurant), a gas station (that is the last one before Choroni), the Hotel Pippo , and El Castaño housing development. From now on the road gets increasingly narrow, but is the only road leading Choroni.

You will get into Choroni in about 1 hr. and 30 min. Once you get there, you must get through the colonial town and exit this in direction to Puerto Colombia. There are 3 small bridges on this way, the first one is immediately out of town and just in front of the Hotel “Hacienda Santa Clara”, the second one is immediately after the “Arakemo” Inn, and if you are staying at  Las Garcias Inn, take the deviation path to your left before crossing the third bridge, a chart signal will indicate you the right direction. The Inn is just 80 meters after this signal.

Choroni has a rural medical dispensary, a drug store, a BNC bank branch with 2 ATM, and an ATM of Banco Mercantil.  There are several restaurants and accommodation venues, public telephone booths, taxi services, bilingual tourist guide services and a gas station that works from 8am to midday and from 2 pm to 6 pm. We recommend you to fill the gas tank in Maracay before you go to Choroni.

The national road Choroni-Maracay crosses the HENRI PITTIER NATIONAL PARK; which is the first national park of the country and one of the most important natural reservations in South America. The park was created in 1937, and is also one of the two ecosystems with most biodiversity on the planet, the other one is in Indonesia. In addition, this park is one of the two ecosystems with more birds per square kilometer in the world, the other one is in Uganda, Africa.

This national park is one of the most extraordinary places in the world and is in great danger due to the unconscious use of users when they visit it. Which is why, we ask you that during your journey through the park, to do not throw cigarettes bottoms, bottles, cans, paper or any kind of trash on the road. Please place them at the trash cans so they can be taken by the local cleaning service.

Our intension is to work with positive actions to save this environmental jewel that Venezuela and the world has.

NOTE: Due to the huge queues or traffic jams that have place at peak times at the entrance of “Palo Negro” toll in the city of Maracay, we recommend you to that instead of entering at this toll, you should take the entrance of “La Encrucijada" or the entrance of "Tapa Tapa" and then follow the directions and signals to tube into “Las Delicias” avenue, and take your way to Choroni.
